Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

It’s hard to improve on a classic yet this recipe takes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to the next level. Toasting bread in butter makes it crispy and the filling warm and gooey. Who combined peanut butter and jelly to create this American staple is unknown, but a reference to the sandwich was published in 1901. Peanut butter became popular in the early 20th century, especially after producers added sugar. Preserving fruit as jam dates before the 11th century. Customize this treat with a favorite jelly or nut butter.
