Salat Olivier is a traditional Russian salad. Consisting of cubed vegetables, boiled eggs, peas, pickles, and meat, this dish is topped with a creamy dressing and served cold. Salat Olivier is named for the French chef who created this dish in Moscow in the 1860s.

  1. Add potatoes and carrots to a large pot filled with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 30 minutes.
  2. Cool carrots and potatoes under cold running water. Peel potatoes.
  3. Chop potatoes, carrots, eggs, meat, and pickles into ½-inch cubes.
  4. Put chopped items into a large bowl, add green peas and salt, and stir in enough mayonnaise and sour cream to lightly dress the salad.
  5. Mix ingredients and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Serve cool.
