Deep-Fried Fish

Fish is an important food source in many parts of the world. Batter-dipped fried fish delivers a crispy fillet and can be eaten plain, with tartar sauce, or doused with salt and vinegar. Fried fish and chips are classic fare in England and initially became popular in the 19th century. Frying fish in oil may have originated with Jews from Spain and Portugal. In the United States, fried fish is commonly served with French fries. In some parts of the country, the combination is called a fish fry.
