The smoothie originates in the United States during the 1930s when marketing professionals were looking for clever ways to sell an invention called the electric mixer; however, the term “smoothie,” used to describe the smooth consistency of this cold beverage, didn’t become common until around the 1980s. Smoothie recipes basically consist of different combinations of fruits and vegetables blended with juice, ice cubes, and yogurt to create a refreshing and healthy drink.

							Ingredients
- 1 cup vanilla yogurt
 - ½ cup orange juice
 - ½ cup cantaloupe, peeled and cut into chunks
 - 4 ice cubes, broken as needed
 
Directions
- Combine the yogurt, orange juice, cantaloupe, and ice in a blender and process until smooth.
 - Pour the mixture into a large glass and enjoy immediately.
