Ahi Poke

Ahi poke, or raw ahi tuna, is a traditional dish of Hawaii and a great way to enjoy supremely fresh fish. In Hawaiian poke means "cut piece" or "small piece" referring to the bite-size cubes of meat that are marinated in seasonings. Any kind of raw seafood can be used to make poke, although ahi tuna is the most popular. Poke has been eaten for centuries but it wasn't until the 1970s that it started appearing in cookbooks. It was around this time that ahi tuna became more readily available. The bright pink color of the ahi, as well as its taste, proved more pleasing than dull, grey fish.
